TikTok investigation with SNH Titan Desktop
What should we pay attention to when it comes to using different social media in the Netherlands? What are the fastest-growing platforms and what impact does this have on ongoing business? Several studies show the same trends. Newcom, a leading investigator, indicates that TikTok, Instagram and WhatsApp are the main growth drivers. The number of TikTok users is even a third higher compared to 2022. TikTok is a popular social media platform used by millions of people around the world. The platform allows users to create and share short videos. It is also an important source of news and information to many people.
Gaining insight into activity on social media is often crucial during an investigation. It is therefore important to look at this more specifically. TikTok is known as a platform whose data is not easy to collect. Its increasing use does make it a valuable source of information. The ability to collect and analyse data from the platform will allow investigators to gain a deeper understanding of what is happening on the platform. But how can this be achieved?
The deployment of Social Network Harvester
Investigations on TikTok can be conducted with Social Network Harvester (SNH) from Freezingdata. SNH is an automated investigation solution for investigative agencies, business consulting firms, law firms, investigation and detective agencies, press and media agencies or other organisations that want to collect and analyse social network data. This requires having at least one user or investigator account on TikTok yourself, but it is safer and more efficient to have access to a number of accounts. These can be used simultaneously. SNH offers a sophisticated rotation system between these accounts, which helps ensure anonymity and continuity.
What does it do?
SNH automatically collects almost all data generated by social media. From different types of contacts including followers and followed to full timelines or chats. Of course, this includes comments, likes or media such as videos or images.
SNH is based on the CAV (Collect, Analyse, Visualize) principle, offering a complete software solution that not only collects data, but also analyses it and provides a wide range of visualisation options. Analysis is possible within this software for both entire social networks and specific user profiles. Relevant data for the investigation can then be exported to different formats for further investigation or evidence.
How do I know if SNH is the right solution for me?
To help determine whether SNH is the right tool for an investigation, a number of advantages of using SNH are listed below:
- Automated data collection: SNH may automatically collect data from a wide range of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, YouTube, Telegram and TikTok.
- Data analysis: SNH can analyse data to identify patterns and relationships. What data is shared by certain individuals or who is a member of certain networks.
- Visualisation of data: SNH can visualise data in various ways to make it more understandable. This provides an opportunity to identify trends and patterns that are not visible in the raw data.
- Export: SNH can export data to different formats for further analysis. This can help you share your findings with other investigators or stakeholders.
- Savings: SNH saves time and resources. Where manual actions were previously required, this is completely taken out of your hands. The data collected is archived and conveniently displayed in its own local database, after which it is immediately suitable for further analysis and reporting.
SNH Titan Desktop
On 3 July, Freezingdata GmbH, the German company behind Social Network Harvester, released an improved, more advanced version of its software. This new version, called SNH Titan Desktop, includes a number of important new features:
- Multiple processes can be used simultaneously for data collection.
- Investigation projects are no longer limited to one social media source per case, as SNH Titan allows them to be linked.
- Investigation data from multiple sources can be combined for further analysis. Multiple users or teams can work simultaneously on the same investigation.
The new version replaces its predecessor SNH Classic. Upgrading from SNH Classic to SNH Titan is easy to do. Do you have an SNH licence through DataExpert and need help with the upgrade? Then send an e-mail to analyse@dataexpert.nl.
Furthermore, Freezingdata is hosting a webinar on 17 August next in which they will discuss the most important new features of SNH Titan Desktop. Participation in the webinar is free of charge. You can sign up here.
